Stanley Steamer
The Stanley Steamer was developed by twin brothers -
Francis and Freelan Stanley. They built their first steam
powered car in 1897. They instituted their classic "coffin-style"
hood design in 1906 and continued to use it until 1917. On
January 26th, 1906 Fred Marriot set the world speed record
of 127.66 mph [205.45 kph] in a Stanley powered vehicle.
